Re: Light gear does a good telemarker make?
skiing different gear in different conditions does a good telemarker make. it's cool to see JackO and others getting the word out about skill building, rather than just putting more polish on shiny new things and insta-worhty face shots. it's no different than any other skill or craft - the greater ...

Re: Newb Question re: telemark bindings
i've seen comments here that the rotte ST binding isn't a great match with the t2 due to the duckbill height, so hopefully someone will confirm or deny that for you. Voile cable binding w/ plastic boots, rotte ST w/ leathers seems to be the general rule. That being said, i think a cable binding like...

Re: Tele --> AT
the price and availability of used, lightweight, higher tech AT gear is real. the real question for you is do you care enough about the tele turn to accept a much longer learning curve? clearly for most of us here the answer has been yes, but then most of us also got into it with more sliding on sno...

Re: Tele --> AT
i'm gonna be contrarian and say that the fastest route to doing more miles/having more fun/less "feeling like you're going to die" is getting an AT setup (if you can afford it). You'll get out more, the learning curve will be shallower, and the climbing will be easier (so you'll ski more). And there...

Re: Love the One You’re With
@randoskier what a spot to live! swimming holes close by, skiing out the front door, in the woods when there's a base and the road for when there's just barely enough

Re: Love the One You’re With
phoenix randoskier yes lincoln gap. previously the notch rd in jeff/stowe. i assume there's still at least a handful of notch/gap roads around the state that are closed or not plowed in winter. closer to here, there's a lot of roads in the national forest that fit that description too - most are mo...

Re: Dog booties
i've been skiing with my border collie 13 winters now, i'm so grateful she's still going with me! anyway... conditions like you're describing are usually fine. any colder (or deeper, stickier snow, etc), we use musher's wax - it doesn't stay on for the whole ski, but it protects her paws till she ge...

Re: Love the One You’re With
don't need much to ski up/down the gap road here in VT. it's been my go-to for when we don't have a base (most of the winter now) or conditions aren't great. every year i tell myself i'll do some cheap and dirty night skiing at some smaller ski hills to get some reps in while i'm waiting for the sno...

Re: Excursion Boot Modifications ?
i've skied excursions, t4s, and t2s for years and agree with all the above. i assume you want to keep the ROM and easier flex of the excursion (which i also love about that boot). maybe it's just me, but in the t2, i've never been able to get nearly as wide a ROM or as ergonomic a flex while touring...
