Re: Xplore on Ice?
UPDATE: I bought the Xplore with the Alpha Free boots, I finally used them with 85mm it was at a resort and a very moderate run. They of Course didn't hold an edge like my Crispi Evos, but definitely better than my 75mm leather boots. They held up plenty well for Tele turns on Eastern Hardpack with ...

Re: Retrofitting inserts into previously drilled skis Part 2
Where did you get M5 screws for the Xplore? Binding Freedom's "Low Head" aren't low enough. I ended up grinding mine. They appear to work, but I haven't actually mounted them yet. Totally agree with the loose mounting before Epoxy sets. I didn't do it the first few pair. The mounts since, have been ...

Re: Xplore on Ice?
After seeing the terrain in the OPs avatar, and reading that he skis shutes on Mt Washington I recommended the T4s. Because that will allow him to enjoy those same slopes that he skis with his Evo's in a smilar style. He may want to be more "sporting" and do it on light gear, but if fun is his goal...

Re: Xplore on Ice?
Hi Ian, IMO, for the downhill stuff you are skiing I wouldn't want to do it in anything less than a T4, especially if your goal is to have fun enjoying the turns. If Xplore or ntn had a boot like the T4 I'm sure either would work, but unfortunately they don't. The T4 gives me the edge control of a ...

Re: Xplore on Ice?
I guess I need to put together a video segment on a cold icy morning skiing my Xplore system. It won't be pretty carving that's for sure, but maybe it will help to demonstrate the advantages and weakness of skiing an Xplore system on ice. Thanks for replying Tom. I would like to get a better idea o...

Re: Xplore on Ice?
Old school DH skis werent much different from todays mid width bc touring skis. Little heavier… bit less rocker. That’s about it. Anyone skiing before mid 90s (before parabolics) will understand this. That's sort of what i was thinking. I loved skiing on my Asolo Extremes with my Kazama outbacks, b...

Xplore on Ice?
I'm tired of lugging my Crispi Evos up mountains when I feel they are more boot than I need. I see people mounting Xplore bindings on alpine width skis. My Question is, how much edge control does this system enable? Would I be in trouble if I came across an Icy section of trail. I'm also a bit conce...
