Re: Ideal ski for a long tour in variable conditions.
Since I haven’t skied all those skis I would say ski the one that turns best! I would think it would be Ingstad. I have a 200 cm USGI, I even skied it at the resort years ago when my son was skiing mostly green runs. It should be okay. I’ve been kick waxing for a good number of years. I use klister...

Re: Ideal ski for a long tour in variable conditions.
My vote is Ingstad. You describe varying conditions where the scales and an Xskin would shine. Its also lighter and turns better than the USGI (I own both). That USGI is a bruiser though, it’ll punch through s**t that will toss Ingy around. Gotta try your Rex Tape idea, interesting to learn it’ll h...

Ideal ski for a long tour in variable conditions.
Hi all! I'm planning on doing the 31 mile circumnavigation of Crater Lake in central Oregon this upcoming Sunday. The temps are forecasted to be a low of 26F in the early am and a high of 40F sometime in the afternoon. It's been pretty cold the last few weeks with night/daytime temps being below fre...

Re: Short, waxable ski recommendation
If you look at what online retailers are stocking this season, it seems like Åsnes has decided to go all-in on trying to push the waxless crap. This will probably be the end of the brand. As @randoskier mentioned, their product in this market is vastly overpriced and underperforming. I don't unders...

Re: Short, waxable ski recommendation
Thanks for your thoughts. I got some feedback on reddit that I shouldn't worry so much about the weight recommendation if I'm waxing, and that fits with my experience when I first started skiing in the mid-70's. Skis were way softer, and we still got fine glide with the right wax. To my understandi...

Re: Excursion 88 vs. Ingstad vs. transnordic 82
Hi everyone, I’m seeking your expertise as I’m on the hunt for a new pair of skis. What I’m Looking For: I’m after an all-around ski that performs well on flat stretches but also provides good downhill control and maneuverability. I’m willing to sacrifice some kick glide in exchange for better down...

Re: Short, waxable ski recommendation
I'd go with the Asnes Admunsen over the Fischer TN59's. I've never used the TN59's but I have used the TN66's (a waxable ski). The TN66 is a real go straight kinda ski, with minimal side cut (compared to the Admunsen's), and a pretty tall camber. I imagine that the TN59's are even more forward orie...

Re: Short, waxable ski recommendation
I have pretty much settled on the Admundsen's after reading a great review on here, that seemed to describe just what I'm looking for. http://www.telemarktalk.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=4513 The Gammes also look good, but I cannot find any of the right size. Neptune Mountaineering looks to have waxab...

Re: Short, waxable ski recommendation
Okay, now I see the E89 were predecessor to TN59 and no easier to find. I do see some TN59's for about half the price of the Admunsens (67-55-62). I wonder, if I'm not worried about staying on top of powder, is there any advantage the Admunsens? Or, is the width just going to slow me down with no g...
