Re: How Do I Turn?
A long time ago, I read an article about two types of unweighting. I think one was UP unweighting, that involves an up and down motion in the upper body, and; The other I think was DOWN unweighting, where the body does not move up and down. Almost another thread but anyway. That’s right, both part ...

Re: How to tele: 3-pin only
Boots are tricky. Black Diamonds might have more forefoot volume than the old Garmonts. Usually that makes for a roomy ankle fit though. Thermofit liners can take up the volume with some loss of response. You can also experiment by cutting off the front (or a section) of cheap foot beds and taping t...

Re: How to tele: 3-pin only
Your cable and boot combination is perfect for moguls but the 3 pin has a couple quirks. There is a lag in pivoting movements even with the R Super Telemark. You could go down one length in your ski or go narrower. Super Stinx is 8mm less so much quicker edge to edge and you can ski them a little mo...

Pole planting must be like drawing 6 shooters.

Re: Shift Plates?
I've used the US, but not the European ones. Alignment is really easy with the long plate. Pick a middle position for the binding and you can adjust it later. With one pair of skis in a variety of conditions you can move it for powder or hardback performance.

Relevant to discussion: The Pinhead's Progress, Powder Magazine January 1986. Yvon Chouinard https://www.powder.com/stories/classics/pinheads-progress-pefect-telemark-run/ Wow, I remember/forgot that. Some respect to get the cover of Powder too. Anyone know of old racing footage (if that's not off t...

Re: What is an "old school telemark ski"- a thread for the real nerds...
I'm glad to hear from someone who was in the heart of telemark. Those guys were our superheroes of the day. I am surprised they raced on the Trucker though. I found the tip torsionally soft and had to get on to the other ski before the tip wandered off. Different turn shape than racing though. I'd l...

Re: What is an "old school telemark ski"- a thread for the real nerds...
Trucker, Phoenix, Mountain Tour? They were all skiable with 3 pins. Buying them didn't mean you could turn them, unlike Tua and K2. The telemark position was not optional. If you didn't know how to stem a turn with the trailing shovel by your boot you might not get off a single turn all day. That's ...
