Re: Xplore Roller skiing bindings broken
Got around to weighing the two bindings, they’re within a gram of each other, with the new one being if anything lighter. Older one has a date code on the main body mold of 11/21, newer one 8/22. A closer photo of the break would be interesting. I used a voltmeter to see if the steel of the screw pl...

Re: Anyone really psyched about their Hok style skishoes?
I have some of the BD 147s I found on deep discount. I think they could be really fun in tight trees with a lurk or tiak pole to get super backseat. Only got a few outings in less than ideal conditions, so did not get the hang of them at all. I think they take a lot more skill than most of the marke...

Re: DIY and portable rope tows.
Yeah, I think the hollow braid polypropylene is a good bet, you could even use an adjustable splice like a whoopie sling and tape up the excess/tuck the ends to get a bit of length adjustment. Pretty small and slippery though, are you thinking a fixed handle that you run back down, or a removable ro...

Re: DIY and portable rope tows.
Well, I had a small windfall and decided to get the Zoa. Still want to develop something more economical, especially since I know so many skiers and snowboarders who have a lot of power tools for work. I did some more testing with the Ascender from Taobao. Putting the drill into high speed, It pulle...

Re: DIY and portable rope tows.
Yeah, electric motors are pretty light and efficient now, but that 4500% better energy density in gasoline vs batteries wins out pretty quickly for endurance. I think I can bring enough batteries on a few miles of shallow approach to get plenty of turns in though.

DIY and portable rope tows.
Thought I’d make a thread about DIY and portable rope tows, after blitzskier said he was also working on one in another thread. I’m still pretty new on freeheel skis. Grew up spoiled for alpine skiing. XCD appeals to me more than AT skiing. Would like to get more turns in and learn quicker without g...

Re: Xplore Roller skiing bindings broken
And here finally a picture. Not the original promised, but from a recent Xplore binding I bought: Xplore_new_tower_insert.jpg I have a recently purchased Rossignol branded pair that looks like that. Other pair I bought a year ago, open box clearance. That one has less steel around the pin holes. Di...

Re: Gaiters for skiing
I have the medium size, they’re fitted but not tight on my 16”/41cm calves. A little over an inch of extra material worn over a soft shell trousers and a base layer.randoskier wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 5:17 am
Do they have good space in the calf? I dislike tight gaiters.

Re: Made my own skis…mounting advice?
Is there an easy way to use what I know about the direction of the grain on the sides of the board to determine which direction to plane/carve on the top of the board? With-against-grain-en.svg.png If you can see the grain on the side of the wood. If it wiggles back and forth a lot, then sometimes ...
