Re: Turbo Charged Leathers

Nice, we’re thinking on the same wavelength here. I think logic would say that it would certainly stiffen the sole, I just wonder if that would translate to turning a ski, or just excruciating pain lol. I know my first few runs in a carbon shoe were far from pleasant

Re: Turbo Charged Leathers

Big fan of superfeet myself. I’ve recently been using their snow sport specific model in a pair of scarpa t-race and my Alpina alaskas and have been very pleased. I was thinking of something that would add some stiffness to the sole. Specifically, a brand called VKTRY insoles. They designed to mimic...

Turbo Charged Leathers

Has anyone ever messed around with putting a pair of carbon fiber insoles into a pair of Bre’s or something similar? Surely there’d be some increase in power getting to the ski

Re: Looking for Advice

Thankfully for you, you’ll be starting with a boot and binding combo that’s gonna give you power to spare. Turning a ski on that setup won’t be much of an issue once you figure out the basics. Personally, I would go with the 4ftnt. I think that ski is better suited to match the shape and finesse of ...

Re: Hunting for turns in West-Central PA

We do, and we don’t. There’s a lot of very thick underbrush, which we rarely have enough snow to cover, so the trick is finding a zone that isn’t littered with deadfall or completely tangled with brush and with enough pitch to ski. I’ve got some promising areas that I’ll be looking into on my next f...

Re: Hunting for turns in West-Central PA

I’ve really grown to love knocking around the woods in my immediate area when conditions permit. I do live well within striking distance of some fun ski resorts, but I’ve just become so disenchanted with the whole song and dance of resort culture. Something very special about gliding across the land...

Re: Hunting for turns in West-Central PA

Hey Gareth, it really depends on the winter. Really strong lake affect years can be great, but those are becoming less and less reliable. There’s some really cool terrain, but the snowpack is just too inconsistent to wait around. You’ve gotta be ready to strike when the conditions are right.

Hunting for turns in West-Central PA

Spent the morning hunting for some skiable terrain just outside of Clarion, PA. If you’re familiar with the area, you know it really is a hunt! Managed to find some some turns and certainly got my steps in. Didn’t wear my garmin, so I don’t have any data, but a fun morning of some proper bushwhacking.

Re: 3 Pin vs. Rotte Xplore

Thanks fisheater, that’s a lot of really good data to chew on. Ive been enjoying my Alpina Alaskas as well. I’ve been using with my NNN-BC setup, and really don’t have much reason other than intrigue to get into another binding format. It would be interesting to hear from someone who has spent time ...
