Dog booties
Who skis with their dog? We do and he's a great trail dog. So far the snow doesn't seem to bother his paws, but we haven't been out in terribly cold conditions yet (25 F and above so far). We bought a set of booties from Spark Paws (link below). I thought the double strap design would work well, but...

Re: Speed test: heavy tele vs XCD touring
Thanks for posting your stats. It was very interesting but not surprising. My theory is that everyone has a cadence that makes them comfortable, and you probably settled into that cadence on both trials. As expected, the heartrate shows that it was more effort to maintain your cadence when you were...

Re: Pros/Cons: Rossignol BCX 11
Agree with others, that’s a very soft boot and not good for downhill. Not bad for kick and glide, but given the very soft tow flex I hardly used the pair I had before selling them. keep looking if you need downhill performance.

Re: NNN-BC Red Flexors
A standard flexor does not keep up with a stiff boot (Alfa Guard, Alaska BC, Crispi Svartisen) You are right. Good skiing technique, (and good technique only) keeps your BOF against the ski. Nothing else. 8-) Flexors, cables, springs and all that stuff are superfluous. Probably true. I have not att...

Re: Backcountry Helmet
I do not, but I have been out with a meetup group a few times this winter and a few people in that group do wear helmets. I didn’t notice what kind of helmets they were wearing. It makes some sense. I would NEVER go mountain biking, even on mellow, rolling trails, without a helmet. So why am I wilin...

Re: Descending Narrow Trails--Skeats?
How long is it? Last week my wife and I came upon a situation like this. It was really steep. I skied off trail, zig zagging back and forth through the trees, and fell three times. It was maybe a couple hundred yards long so my wife took her skis off and walked (the track was very firm). She beat me...

Re: Soft shell jackets for skiing
I've been using a voormi hardened wool layer on top of a short sleeve wool shirt. I literally use it from 5-30 degrees. I zip on the hood when I get cold. I unzip it down to the stop when it gets warm. I throw on a goretex jacket for the downhill and if the weather turns sour. Interesting. I hadn’t...

Re: Soft shell jackets for skiing
For those interested, I edited the original post with a short review of the jacket I ended up buying - the Rab Borealis. It’s pretty good for me. But for those who tend to run hot, it’s probably still not breathable enough. If getting any exercise at all, I still cant imagine anything other than so...

Asnes, Xplore and Alaska XPs at Boulder Sports Recycler
I think there was a thread for sharing good deals available, but I can’t find it. Anyway, I just stopped by Boulder Sports Recycler in Boulder, CO and they have: Asnes Fram (195, I think), waxless, Xplore bindings, and X skins for $500, down to $300 if it doesn’t sell in a few weeks. It all looked p...
