Re: The Alpina Alaska XP Boot / Rottefella XPLORE Binding Experience Review
As Tom's partner on the 9 mile trek, I put at least 100 yards on the explor binding! I liked it, especially the elimination of the toe crunch problem of duckbills. Easy in/out and comfortable K&G with the soft bumper. Seemed to have better edge control than BC bindings (eg NNN-BC) but the conditions...

All hail the fake-a-mark!
Life is defined by a string of low stance tele turns step-dancing down a steep powder slope. But at the end of the day the mountain is skied off, all that's left is crud, wind-blasted groomers and a pair of legs that cannot take it anymore. You're spent, you just want to make it back to the bottom w...

Re: Bindings for old guy
Old guys are divided into curmudgeons who cling to their 75 mm duckbill and poseurs who have gone NTN.

Re: Pre-WWII Ski film director a BBC piece
The most famous participant in these films -- then as an actress - was Leni Riefenstahl, and she, of course, has her own history with the Third Reich. Many of the films are available on DVD and the footage is very impressive for the time. Her autobiography is worth reading just for her descriptions ...

Re: Losing Popularity?
Yes, short terms urge in popularity due to covid makes gear hard to find this year. Longer term... Certainly one has seen a huge growth in AT, as well as in the more aggressive pursuit of powder, which has for a number of years depressed the relative number of people doing xcd, formerly referred to ...

Re: Which skis for multi-days expedition? Voile V6? Rossi BC100?
IMO you should go lighter on the boots and wider on the skis. Are you going to be kick waxing? If not, fishscales are much faster than skins. Kicker (half) skins are much faster than full length skins. A fishscale ski may not give enough grip to pull a pulk but a kicker skin will. Stepping down to a...

Re: Looking for advice on equipment trying to figure this out
I'm surprised by some of the preceding recommendations of relatively narrow skis. First, it's three PIN, not point. There are three pins in the binding that go into holes in the front of the boot, held down by the clasp outside. The Rossi BC 70 is a decent ski and, when you get better ski balance, y...

Re: Argh Can't decide which 75 mm binding for Vectors
That's a good point. I took the bulldogs off the ski I'm retiring today (Jak BC). I previously had switchbacks on them. Just one set of holes. I hadn't remembered that.
I think the rearward mounting makes lazy GS turns easier. Not so good for quick turns.
