Re: Looking for the ultimate XCD ski pole

I'm rocking the Swix Mountain poles this year and loving it! I have two pairs, both found for cheap by trolling around various sales & shops. These are way lighter than 2 or 3 section poles and heavier gauge than normal XC poles. For some reason I prefer these to my BD sectional poles, the extra len...

Re: NNNBC-Magnum

interesting discussion - just chiming in with my 2 cents - everything is the opposite with me. I spent about 20 years using NNNBC and just tried 3 pin last season and loved it. The last of my skis are getting the NNN's taken off this week. For me, kick & glide striding feels way better with Rottefel...

Re: Why are americans fat?

don't get me wrong - I have two pairs of snowshoes and use them! I'm a snowboarder too and the board+snowshoes is basically what I use instead of an AT setup. Excellent for up & down with no approach. Absolutely for climbs snowshoes are great. But there aren't any climbs around here, just rolling hi...

Re: Why are americans fat?

I've written before about noticing a big drop-off in nordic skiers around Massachusetts over the last 10 years. Sad really, I feel sorry for people I see slow-shoeing, traveling 1/3rd or less my speed through the woods and hills. Over the last week I've seen a lot of people out jogging, yet I'm alon...

Re: Dumb wax question

I'm lazy and have used Swix F4 liquid for years on my waxless skis - this year I waxed them (tips & tails) with a Toko non-Fluorinated Universal temp glide wax - definitely faster. It's better. It lasts for 10+ sessions too. I still put the F4 on the scales. Waxing's much easier with a good bench sy...

Re: All purpose backcountry/bushwack ski

If you want to go long/double camber, here's what I would buy: http://www.neptunemountaineering.com/asnes-gamme-54-ski-540261 IMO Fischer lightened up the E99 too much in 2013, edges are now thin and fragile, and as someone said the new fishscale pattern is too long and slow, I would grab these Asne...

Re: Happy New Year

yes, I took the other 205 Merrell and the 205 Kamazas as well - the Super Comps have slightly more camber than the Kazamas, a little harder to push flat to the floor. I thought they'd be better at XC touring type stuff, they are very light weight. They look durable, for the price I couldn't resist, ...

Re: Happy New Year

Oh while we're at it... I finally gave in to that ebay auction... Here's my latest addition to my XCD quiver. 205cm, single camber, 55mm wide: LJ - nice! You got the Merrells which are supposedly Asnes. did you go with Voile 3pc - on balance point? (just curious) I measured them at 66-56-60. They a...

Re: I'm an XCD skier

It's all a state of mind - in the 80's and 90's, all the famous couloirs & chutes around Jackson Hole were being skied by guys in leather boots and cable bindings. In the early 90's I personally skied with friends who were dropping 40-foot cliffs with this gear. The heaviest boot I ever saw were Ali...
