Re: Update from the XCD Knights

I'm waiting for Tom's and cliffy's review of the Ingstads. I'm 99% sure that's my next ski. I love that width, flex, sidecut for the BC and I want those integrated skins!. I agree on the skins - thinking I should save my money and try to buy new Asnes skis instead of more vintage treasure hunting. ...

Re: Update from the XCD Knights

Mike - only about $120 shipped - seems like a great deal! They don't even make these anymore. Go for it! this is how I found my E99's, for about the same price too. I have a couple even older treasures from the 90's awaiting bindings, absolutely no possibity of ebay purchases at this time for me! I ...

Re: Update from the XCD Knights

we should learn from Asnes and just call everything Fell Skiing! I think I'm slowly coming around to Asnes' point of view. I've found I only like scales on skinny skis that have double camber. We are definitely at the high-water mark of the "scales" phenomenon! They are springing up on snowboards an...

Re: Classic Pins: Rottefella ST vs. Voile HD Mountaineer

Voile 3pc is a nice solid binding, nothing wrong with it. I actually prefer the lower heel pad of the ST, I like the feel of my feet close to the ski. And the ST weighs even less than NNNBC. So minimalist & versatile. You can use everything from XC shoes to plastic boots. maybe a truce was negotiate...

yep, get some 210's & you'll be cursing like a trucker! stubborn herringboning until your arms burn out and you slide back down is another valid technique.

Re: Update from the XCD Knights

Ctonic if my tour will be on trails I'll take the light gear and enjoy my turns, but if I plan to do some meadow skipping off trail I take the heavy stuff because being a walking eggshell I can't afford to crash. Al - pretty funny - I get it, it's just another strategy to mitigate the advancing sta...

Re: Why I don't like skis >200cm

Mike it's not only about grip, it's about ski placement. It is hard to explain but by using the sidehill you can place your skis almost level and not be perpendicular to the main fall line. Instead you keep your skis pointing somewhat up the hill and you step foward as well as up making faster prog...

Re: Update from the XCD Knights

A big reason why different gear makes sense is your physical situation. Once some arthritis and/or permanent injuries kick in, you may find yourself embracing light gear. In my case the mind is willing, the cardio system is there, but the bones are not there anymore. Travelling miles of flats in hea...

Silicon spray is great stuff, if you don't have any you can also use some Maxiglide or Swix F4 if that's available

Re: Why I don't like skis >200cm

oh yeah, that passage would be hell for 210's! Not the width of it…it's concave. Couple years ago I bought some old E99's off ebay, and to "save" on shipping I ordered 2 pairs. I ended up skiing on 200's and 210's last winter. I also had a newer pair of 205's. The difference was interesting. The 200...
