Re: Next pair of skis to complement E99 Crown?

as usual it will take more than one pair of skis to fix this dilemma! If you only have E99 crown then there is a huge need for a waxing ski in that profile - Gamme 54. However for deep pow turns NATO is needed. NATO has a big camber drop-off from Gamme but it's still decent at kick-n-glide. You'll p...

Re: Got a hernia at work... anyone have any experience skiing with one?

IMO put the skis away until surgery and recovery....lock them up if necessary! Many doctors are egotistical idiots, especially surgeons, and will not tell you to stop doing sports. Hernia will get worse (larger) with more exertion. The larger it is, the bigger the piece of mesh they'll have to...

Re: right or wrong way to handle climbing skins

I never glue them together, I cut a little sheet of this stuff to put in between, works great, makes them much easier to separate:

West Coast storm

this is great - never heard of "SIS" before but it's a problem I'd like to have! >> This storm is a reminder about the power of Mother Nature and safe riding habits in deep snow. Conditions are currently dangerous. It will take considerable time and extreme caution and care by our team to dig ...

Re: Asnes Mountain Tour 51

Alaska looks gorgeous! Good to know you could make turns with these - there is something about the softer edgeless tips I really like. It makes the MT51's a comfortable ski vs. a pure XC ski. It goes over bumps & chunky stuff smoothly because of the tips flexing. Not surprised that makes it easier t...

Re: What do you carry in day packs? Backcountry XCd

Now, is it likely that you will eject right over a brothel in friendly territory? Is it likely they'd be out of condoms? Maybe, maybe not....but do you really want to be "that guy"?  pretty funny but condoms also have many uses - they're waterproof, could be used to keep medication dry o...

Re: What do you carry in day packs? Backcountry XCd

I'd add herbal medicine (congrats to our friends in Arizona, Montana & New Jersey  ) and a down jacket. I've got a down jacket I squeeze into a small stuff sack, barely takes up any room. If you're laying in the snow with a leg injury these are the first two things I'd want. On alpine tours...
