Re: Changes in Fischer lineup?
It makes no sense that the Transnordic 66 and the Traverse 78 have no Easy Skin. Last year's waxable TN66 had an Easy Skin attachment, but no waxable version this year. I don't see any reason to buy a waxless TN66 (the ski is mainly good in conditions where scales are not), and the logic of "let's ...

Ha, while I agree with you that generally gear is overrated over ability, some of this is just not true, so wouldn’t want anyone not familiar with groomed track skiing to be fooled. “Slightly slower on the flats”. Have you ever tried skate skiing on a groomed deck on BC skis? I have skate skied on ...

Re: Top sheet designs
and then there is the Asnes Gamme "Fabio". lol AKA, "Pippin". At 210cm, he has to be the tallest hobbit. I think I like the older colorful portrait top sheets better, especially the red Amundsen. Not going to get that ski though, since I already have a Sondre Nordheim and a Gamme, and if I get anyt...

Re: How do I repair a cut bellows? Garmont plastic boots
Is there a silicone/calk that is best? I have a can of "Flex-shot" in the motorhome... Has anyone done anything like this, or did I just buy a leaky, unfixable boot? It may be worth giving Shoe Goo a try. That stuff is in-between glue and silicone sealant. I have had good luck with it in rock climb...

Re: New Åsnes Combat NATO 62 BC
Also interesting about the skins. Synthetic skin material makes sense (it’s specifically mentioned in the Norwegian Army spec). Explained by the 40 day specified service life, which could be lot of mileage and rough use for troops on the move. It will be interesting to see if any special materials ...

Re: 100 Mile Wilderness Maine (2023)
I weigh 155lbs (~70.5kg). Average pack weight/size: 10/15lbs (5-6kg) [day tour gear mostly] I am leaning pretty hard towards my first xcd skis having fish scales. I just don't want to futz with transitions on undulating terrain. In the past when faced with shorter steep sections I have been able to...

Re: 100 Mile Wilderness Maine (2023)
Smart two ski quiver @CwmRaider. A skier could certainly cover a lot of bases with a Falkentind-Ousland quiver. A careful selection like this isn’t often seen… two skis that cover a range without falling off into extremes. Far better, in my opinion, to skis at the opposite ends of the spectrum like...

Re: Åsnes Snømann
I Got these second hand unmounted babies for my 3 year old. Sidecut 60-52-56 110cm long Waxless base Surprising amount of tip and tail rocker Very low camber Kind of for laughs, but it's Åsnes so I hope I get a free pass, and everyone starts somewhere right? That looks much better than some other b...

Re: New Åsnes Combat NATO 62 BC
So one of these skis will die. Odds are it’s the old Combat NATO. Which gets back to the question of what’s the rationale behind the new one. Doesn’t appear to be anything significantly different… otherwise, wouldn’t Asnes be leaning on that as a selling point? (“It costs us less to make or we’re s...

Re: How Ski Wax Works (Really)
Skiers operating in the “Goldilocks Zone” can get away with a lot. The consequences of choosing a wax one step too high or too low aren’t that serious. Hard waxes are more forgiving. But outside that narrow range, performance (speed, control, consistency) really takes a hit. Hard waxes really are v...
