Re: Amundsen or Gamme?

I'm aware that the combat NATO may be better than either one, but it is not really available on the North American market that I know of. The Norseman- Calgary, Alberta, Canada. My understanding is that the Combat Nato is THE backcountry Nordic touring ski that they stock. Also- how much of an issu...

Re: Ski Review: 2019 Åsnes Gamme 54 BC

You know what- I don't care about the Gamme vanity shot-

the updated Gamme 54 is a masterpiece in terms of performance- I really don't know what Pa Gamme is talking about in his review-

Trust me- you will be so happy- and moving so fast- you won't have time to be staring down at Alexander's mugshot.

Re: The new Rottefella XPLORE OFFTRACK Binding System Review

UPDATE: As of today, the XPLORE hard flexor is still not available for review. The reason is that Rottefella is still working on it in Norway. From Rottefella US: " Currently they are not satisfied with the hardness/performance of the hard flexor, so they've asked to hold tight until such time... I...

Re: The new Rottefella XPLORE OFFTRACK Binding System Review

I still don't believe the Xplore system will match the power that a T4 class boot can provide, but we'll see what comes later. It is not my priority anyway, as I am waiting for a lighter NTN boot with more walking comfort. It has never been what the XPlore is all about: Rottefella Xplore is a new b...

Re: The new Rottefella XPLORE OFFTRACK Binding System Review

Although the rigidity of the binding attachment on the Xplore binding might improve downhill power transfer and edging- I don't see how a boot as soft-flexing as the Guard is going to offer anything more downhill than it does on the NNNBC platform... You are right... The same XPlore boot is not goi...

Re: Newish XC skier looking for suggestions on getting deeper out there

I have some BD kickers from years past -- seems like i read somewhere they (or at least one model) have been discontinued -- anybody have the real intel? https://www.campsaver.com/black-diamond-glidelite-mohair-mix-kicker-skins.html Ha -- the "replacements" suggested by "experts" at campsaver don't...

Re: Newish XC skier looking for suggestions on getting deeper out there

Hello Chris and Welcome! So- is the only issue climbing grip? On just icey snow? What are you climbing that would require crampons? Why would you consider crampons before skins? A number of skiers on this site have removed the NNNBC heel piece and have installed a heel piece with climbing elevators....

Re: Crusty

The non-rockered Combat Nato is a crust-smashing machine. As a note- I reviewed some of my notes from my journal over the weekend- Though I think the geometry and shape of the Combat Nato makes it a "crust-smashing machine"- my actual records from this winter suggest that the Gamme 54 is even bette...
