Freedom of speech

This is very, very important. This is the very essence of internet: Freedom of speech. If it wasn't for this, internet would be useless and boring. As I said elsewhere, conflicts, troublemakers, heretics, divergence of opinion, Black Diamond skis and rich baby boomers are unfortunately part of this thing called life. Fortunately, there's a lot to learn from it. If everything was perfect, there would be no point of being alive.

It has always been that way. You can't get a mass of people to agree on everything. And since it involves a lot of different people, so will the tone and the way people express themselves.

Controversy and so-called "uncivil" posters were always part of the game. I used to love Bulletin Board Systems back in the 80-90s. I used to run one myself. You could exchange and learn so much there. And then came Usenet and a billion interesting newsgroups. 20 years later, nothing has changed. Stupid kids were always part of the game, and there's nothing you can do about it. Trying to control it is just the most stupid thing ever. But what's stupid and what is not depends on who you are. Who's to judge what's right or wrong? Moderators? Really?

The need for moderating everything is plain stupid. Netiquette is just as stupid. They really need FOUR different moderators for ONE forum? I'm sorry, but this is definitely not my kind of stuff. I'm totally against it. Sorry, but I'm not reading "moderated" stuff. I don't like edited opinions. I like to read real people with real interesting stories. People with real opinions, as wicked as they might be. I like to read about passionate telemark skiers, not just rich and bored AT'ers. Freedom of speech is the most precious thing. It IS the true spirit of any forums, the whole point of the internet. Controlling, moderating, deleting and filtering is against everything I believe in.

There is no moderator here. There is no owner. There is no "etiquette". Everything is yours. Just be cool, be yourself. Show your true colors. Let's have some real fun and talk passionately about what we love the most...

It's interesting the course you have chosen , LJ..
All other forums require that one check his
"freedom of speech" at the door..

Ahhhh, a home for the unorthodox, the heretics,
the outliers , the fringe and, of course, the
good boys and girls...

By and large, people will self-moderate..
