Montreal non-profit looking to reintroduce downhill skiing to Mount Royal
interesting article - of course Mt. Royal is already full of skiers and snowboarders, they must be talking about adding a lift:

Oh Christ...
If they want to introduce "less privileged" children to skiing, why in the hell do they need a lift? Mont Royal is TINY in terms of climbing. And who in their right mind needs real dh hill skis to ski Mont Royal? And where are they going to get these skis from?
How 'bout they take that money they want to spend on a lift/tow system and buy a whole bunch of waxless, metal-edged skis and leather boots and let people rent them for a few bucks? Kind of like BREIA does with Boonville S&R.
Mark a few trails as up only and voila! Instant XC and DH ski area!
BTW - those old pictures are awesome. That place looks a lot more cleared out in terms of trees than it is now.
