Had a good chat with the folks at Neptune Mountaineering about our conditions and goals and went with a pair of Asnes Nansens and Tonjes. We'll use separate skis TBD on track.

Now learning about waxing! Much more complicated than downhill.

man, I was 3yo when my parents first strapped XC skis on my feet. I remember racing in the "5 and Under" category. back then, Bill Koch hadn't invented skating yet, so we all learned "diagonal" skiing, aka Traditional. becoming really good at traditional is probably harder than skating, but learning how to shuffle along traditionally is probably easier than skating.

basic skate skiing is like ice skating with poles in its simplest form.

I wish I could be of more help, but skiing is hardwired into my body at this stage, I don't actually know how to teach it.

when I learned Tele at about 13yo, I was already an alpine, XC and Ski jumper. BUT, I used to read books about Tele and look at the pics. in fact a couple of years ago I found an old yellow notecard that I had written on. it was notes to myself about how to tele turn. I can still recall pulling that card from my pocket and reading it on the chairlift. that was about 37 years ago....

For those who end up on this thread in the future I've also found these videos helpful for some beginner classic ski tips:

There is also a website with further tips. It's around $35/year.
