DIY Asnes X-Skin attachment?

Post by montrealer » Thu Mar 11, 2021 12:46 pm

Along with my Nansens, I bought the 45mm mohair skins and briefly tested them before the snow really went to shit...

The other day while going through my box of ski-related odds and ends I found a bunch of strips of BD mohair mix skins leftover from when I cut them a couple years back. There are some decently long, ~30mm wide strips that could potentially be used for some experiments. :D

Mostly I'm looking for the shortest, thinnest possible piece of skin that I could leave on the skis during spring or otherwise difficult conditions, and leaving the Asnes ones for climbing duty.

Inspired by the DIY Fischer skin attachment thread, I've been thinking about a (hopefully less elaborate :) ) way of attaching the skin scraps to my Nansens.

The first thing that comes to mind is finding a piece of metal that I can cut to create the 2 little arms, and then somehow pierce the skin and plug them into the holes in the skis. When I have some spare time, I'll upload a little sketch of my idea...

Otherwise I could try to do something like the BD kicker skins (no longer sold):

Any tips, ideas?

The BASA is what you are looking for:
Bri7 Asnes Skin Adapter

These were the first generation adaptors, with lots of problems, wrong shape etc.
The new 2.0 ones are perfect and even thinner. (And should be available in the next few days from @Bri7 ...)

Forget about the bulky and crappy BD Glidelite skins, go for the best: Pomoca Race.
Super freaking thin and super fast. It's the one and only skin material I use.

Lac des Castors? 8-)

Hello guys

The Asnes skin adaptor 2.0 is finally here (well almost).

I had 50 pieces made from canadian austetinitc stainless steel in Sorel, Quebec.

I should pick them up this week-end.

If you want some, hit me with a private message with your address.

Just want to cover my costs. 10$ a set of 2 plus shipping. They will fit in an enveloppe so shipping should be very expensive.

Ah nice. Next time I buy skins I'll check those out, but for now I wanna use what I have so it's not sitting in a box...

Looks perfect! I will be ordering a pair the minute they are available.

Does it include the rivet to attach to the skin?
