Full side zip pants?
Re: Full side zip pants?
Montane Alpine Resolve.
Not on the Montane site but available on line. Gortex with bonded woven flocking on inside. Vented zips on thighs. Built in gaiter. Flared and expandable cuffs. Removable suspenders. Not bulky. Good stretch. Windproof but super breathable. Fits a half size small. 34 waist with big hammies? Go for L.
Perfect on their own (no base layer needed) between 15 and 40F, which covers a lot of the season without the need of a full zip.
Prices range from insane ($500 at outfitters) to reasonable. Got mine off-season two years ago for $90. Anything under $200 is worth it. Good pant.

Re: Full side zip pants?
Thanks Manney, but I want the full zip so I can put them on/off without removing my mondo 30 boots
I’m really surprised OR, with their military contracts doesn’t have a full side zip option.
Gareth, I love the pant you suggested… I want a full on pant that can take downhill and crampon abuse, will it? The only color they have is black, tough to see the inner ankle if there is a reenforced inner cuff patch? Edit: yes it does!
FJ also has this for… $500 https://www.fjallraven.com/us/en-us/men ... rousers-m2
Both are very $…
MontBell has a good looking Alpine pant but no longer full side zip
Decathlon has this, but their sizing can be all over the place, I’m not sure if I have time to order and see. https://www.decathlon.ch/fr/p/sur-panta ... mc=8331170
Also as much as I love decathlon I’ve never found a pant I like from them… too tight for the boys.

Yes the FJ eco-shell materials will definitely take some major abuse- very durable.Woodserson wrote: ↑Thu Mar 23, 2023 3:45 pmGareth, I love the pant you suggested… I want a full on pant that can take downhill and crampon abuse, will it? In my assessment, there is not a huge difference between the Keb vs Bertagen pant-
- the Keb has more pockets
- the Bertagen has a higher back
- the Bertagen is more minimalist and trim- intended purely for moutaineering-skiing
- while the Keb is intended for general backcountry touring
I use the Keb year-round for both fieldwork and touring.
The eco-shell fabric is responsible genius- so is their PFC-free DWR impregnation: https://www.fjallraven.com/ca/en-ca/wom ... mpregn-usa
Yes- expensive- but, not more so than many other alternatives...
Looking back over the decades- if I had bought FJ clothing for field, work and touring, I would have saved money in the long run.
Cross-country AND down-hill skiing in the backcountry.
Unashamed to be a "cross-country type" and love skiing down-hill.

I have a pair of these and they are perfect for what I do.

I don't know where all sells Lundhags in the US but I got mine from Varuste, where I order most of my gear now, and I'm in Utah. They have lots of pockets, a crotch vent, and zip on the outside from the cuff to mid-thigh. It's enough for me to get my full DonJoy knee brackes on and off.
If by full side zip you mean completely opening the leg, then you might try these.

They aren't ski-specific, in fact they are motorcycle pants, but I've skied in them plenty. And they even have a great, fully (and easily) removable knee pad which we tele-skiers love. They are full side zip and very tough; designed to withstand a get-off (crash) on pavement. If you want something a little lighter, they also sell an AD1 Light. It's basically the same pant but a lighter weight material. They check all your boxes and they also come in gray.
