Grand Targhee Big Mountain Telemark Comp POV Videos

Post by teleTay » Tue Mar 03, 2015 3:33 pm

I was up at Targhee this past weekend for the Big Mountain Telemark Competition. I had never competed in anything like this before, but it was a great experience.

It was awesome to see all of the free heel talent in one place.

I wore the GoPro so here are some videos.

My first qualifier run.

Second qualifier run. I kind of got mixed up as to where the first cliff I wanted to hit was but still made it down in one piece.

I qualified 10th overall. It was a really tight race, 3 points separated 6th and 10th.

Then in the finals I took two pretty good falls. Did a "tele roll" off of a double cliff feature, and then came in way to hot at the bottom and got launched off the final hit.

Fun weekend, looking forward towards next year. My main goals for next year are just skiing the line without hesitation and making it smoother.

Bravo! I'm impressed. You certainly didn't hold back on that last run. We skied an adjacent run two weeks ago, knowing where the Comp was to be held. It's no joke.

I was not expecting that last big air on the last run around 1:00, especially how you came into it straight. Big drop, and flat not far beyond. Smooth take-off. Groovy dude! Groovy!

Great movies Tay! Steep and fast, just like I like it!
Wath skies did you have? I can't figure it out from the movie.

Thanks, it was definitely a good venue to challenge everybody!

Haha someone had kind of built a little lip during the venue inspection. The combination of coming in way to fast and the lip caused the last air to not go exactly as planned

I was skiing a pair of K2 Hippy Stinx, they have some miles on them (hand me down from my dad) but I really like them. They also made me one of the few competitors on a true "Telemark" Ski, even though they were just Seth Pistols with inserts and a different graphic.

Thanks! No pads this year  ... but I am considering getting a 3XL jacket and wearing my hockey pads underneath next year!
