Great pre-Christmas powder in the forest. Been some of the best early season skiing in memory. As of now woods have some base and fields down to grass. Will make do and love every minute of it. TM

Wonderful! :D
Looks similar our local piece of beech forest which got dubbed "little Japan", but I think you have more often much better powder. Despite being situated on the north side of a ridge our beech tree run often gets crusty or like mash potatoe... Right now after plenty fresh snow it's raining on the highest hilltops at 1300m above sea... and plenty and very very windy... carnage in the forest. The good news: after this storm most of the dead wood will have snapped off so less danger later on when it gets windy again. As famous Dutch soccer coach Johan Cruijff said: "Every disadvantage has its advantage"
In Dutch: "Ieder nadeel heeft zijn voordeel"
Werner Munter: "What is the most dangerous group in the mountains? A group of avalanche experts! The avalanche doesn't know you're an expert" ;)

Our Northern Hardwood Forest is or can be incredible. Been cut off many times but now and then we score some "Old Growth" and there isn't anything but a tiny bit left. Will never forget the beauty of giant Hardwoods and skiing in them was close to as good as one can get. Gone now but not forgotten. No doubt you have wonderful skiing where you are. TM

Headed out to Dead Moose Pond and what was left of snowpack was good. Bout 6-8 inches of ball bearing easy skiing snow. Ice on the pond was worrying but safe enough yesterday. Scored a few decent long, like 20-yard turns that felt good. Just good being out there dealing with silence and easy skiing temps. TM

Up in the gap where the car is parked headed North and it was good. Easy skiing on the logging road and the forest was good also. Snow is different, solid with easy ball bearings on top for easy longish turns. Forest was again quiet and the workout good. See the Doc about the knee soon and will do what makes for great skiing. TM

Bad snow, hardpack with branches and blowdowns everywhere. Water iced over wet leaves iced over. 6-8 inches then water covered in icy leaves and so on. All whips were in their glory with so little snow. Will check out some usually decent logging roads with gaps of no snow soon. Tough times! TM

Looks like you will get snow this weekend; but more in mid-south Vt. Perhaps you should contact T-roll in Randolph, and try the Braintree trails. He and I have skied those over the years, and the trail in is easy (for T-man) with whip-cleared hardwood glades for the confident (T-King and -Kid).
