Xplore Remount from 3 Pin

Post by AdamA » Sun Jan 28, 2024 8:45 pm

Hey All,

Thinking about remounting my FT62xs from 3pin to Xplore. Anyone have any experience with this? An older post said you need to shift the mount back by 2.4cms. Is that accurate? And if so, how much will that affect performance either on downhill or K+G?

I would see how pins on BP works out with existing holes. I’m not suggesting reusing existing holes, just spacing from existing holes.
I would move either forward or backwards, whichever move kept me closest to pins on BP. Personally I wouldn’t be to worried about 2 cm spacing between new and old holes. It’s not like you’re mounting a Vice or Hammerhead. It seems like there is more of a problem with short Xplore screws pulling out, rather than catastrophic ski failure from holes weakening the structure of the ski.
Just my thoughts, I just can’t see Voile ever not warranting skis mounted with Xplore.
My way of exaggerating, to illustrate my reasoning.

If your 3-pin was/is mounted directly on the ski with the pin-line at the balance point you cannot mount Xplore at the balance point. You’ll have to go forward or backward. When I put a 3-pin on ‘over’ the Xplore holes (inserts) I used the Voile 10mm riser and was able to mount the 3-pin, pin-line at the balance point.

If it’s important to you I can go pull the 3-pin and check interference measurements for you.

CwmRaider's excellent info on Xplore mount:
https://www.telemarktalk.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=5428
Xplore has not interfered with the previous holes on my conversions from Rottefella Super Telemark. Are your 3-pins mounted directly to the ski or on a riser, and if riser, which one?

If it is the standard 3-pin hole pattern, you can reuse two of the existing holes to do a test mount, but the binding will be shifted rearwards by 2.4 cm. I would mount correctly/at pin line if you are sure on the conversion.

Make sure to plug old holes and drill correctly:

https://www.telemarktalk.com/viewtopic. ... 202#p66464

I used the long Xplore screws on the two rearwards main holes and got dimples in the soles on my Falketind 62 XP. After cutting the screw tips and remounting it is good. Good luck.

Edit: I also used the long screws without issue for an old pair of Åsnes Rago, as the hold/core felt weak.

No worries. Don’t go do that. Thank you though!
