Meadow skipping TTS

Post by turnfarmer » Thu Jan 09, 2025 11:10 am

Cross posting this fromBackside Bar and grill. Thought some may find the concept of in easily switched from ski t semi free mode may be useful to some here-

When it snows, seems less and less, I like to ski in my backyard and what used to be my grandmothers cow pasture. Most of it has been done on 3pins or Switchbacks with a Garmont Guida(T4ish Boot) and some combination of skis. Since I mostly ski Alpine these days, I’ve come to really dislike the tippy toe feeling I get from these setups. Also decreasing skills with age have increased the desire to get away these setups.

So what I wanted was ease of freer pivot like the switch back, without tippy toe. My hill is very short so the idea of needing to faff with a heel throw all the time ruled out traditional tts. Also kind of wanted an in between mode.

So I started with the original Voile TTS toe, thinking I could put a NNNBC like bumper in front of it. It turned out this was harder than I anticipated. I don’t really drop a knee much so I didn’t really need a lot of spring travel, An old 412 provided parts that were grafted to the TTS toe piece. Old fashioned ski safety straps keep the heel loop from falling off in walk mode. I may end up taking it to a local ski area to make sure it works so I’m ready if it ever snows here again.

Nicely done Turnfarmer. I personally am quite happy with my 75 mm combos whether T-4 or leather. F-1 Race and Transit is my “heavy” combo for the ski hill. I have an F-1 coming any day, and would like to save the Race for BC touring

Thanks Fisheater, Put a lot of time into project, think I finally have a workable version. I would be happy with my 75mm if it wasn’t so tippy toe.
For you guys that actually Telly, I have a similar front throw idea that would use a hammerhead spring that would provide a lote more spring travel. I’ll post a mock up at some point.
