Skiing on lighter gear made you ski "better than ever"? That's amazing, thanks for sharing your experience
What's interesting is that the actual weight is about the same as my plastic boot (garmont synergy, 265 size) but it does feel lighter when in the ski. I'm sure there's some kind of physics to explain that. Maybe it's because plastic concentrates the weight into the binding and it requires more work to shuffle kind of like adding rotational weight to a bike.

Yes I suppose "lighter" is a bit of a misnomer, my bad

I had a pair, probably mid 1980's the original inner boot was a lace up wool liner.

The inner boot you have might have come from their next boot which was a leather boot with a taller plastic cuff, might have been called a Merrell Extreme, everything was called extreme in the late 1980's.

I used the Velcro straps, but never felt I could get the boot tight enough.

Of course I did a lot of Extreme skiing back then

I didn't think of that solution, but he's right, the liner is from a different model of Merrell boot, an early Supercomp.

SUPERCOMP that's the name I couldn't remember.

Not me in photo, but funny, looks like he's about to crash.

That boot came out in 1983, and Merrell called it the "Super Double". I owned that liner, still do, but it came with my 1985 red cuffed Merrell Supercomps.
