New ALFA boot

Post by Nick BC » Fri May 09, 2025 2:59 pm

An interesting thing came up today on my FB feed. It was an Instagram post from Lars Mathisen shot in Norway. It shows him in a pair of Alfa boots with a power strap and walk mode lever. Is this the answer for all those folks looking for a beefier Explore boot? I’m intrigued.

Very interesting. It's currently the second video on his Instagram feed.

Alfa stated on the power strap, walk mode bar like on the new TX Pro and many AT boots. It seems to have a plastic cuff design kinda similar to Scarpa F1 LT to me, but with the BOA on the outside of the ankle:

That might be more support than I imagined for an Xplore boot. Not easy to see the lower and no description yet. He states on Instagram that is flex is softer (than the Free?) and very comfortable for walking. I am wondering if the flex is softer because of the stiff cuff or just softer overall, and will ask him.

Edit: It is planned to launch this autumn.

That boot looks like it might be a winner. It has plenty of hight and plastic for lateral support, hopefully they got the forward flex stiff enough to get power to your tips and a sole that flexes right.

Reminds me of the old Alpina BC2000/2500. I had the 2000, it skied really well, like a more comfortable Asolo Extreme.
Rottefella can you bring out an Xplore binding with on the fly mode change from free pivot to halfway engaged stiff bumper to fully engaged stiff bumper? Then you'd take my money for sure.

A pivoting and lockable cuff makes more sense than having multiple flex points in the boots. Greater range of motion while striding or climbing and a fixed ankle angle for the descent. Any indication of cost? Is it a Beta version? Please ask.

Picture from the transition, but not easy to see much more there either:
