How do you lace your leather ski boots?
How do you lace your leather ski boots?
I've been looking for better ways to lace leather ski boots in order to keep them tight and comfortable. I've found some good resources online such as http://www.backpacker.com/gear/footwear ... echniques/. I've been using the ladder lacing technique (http://www.fieggen.com/shoelace/ladderlacing.htm) and it's a big improvement. Anyone have good luck with any specific lacing techniques?

Pretty interesting. I never really thought about it much and always just used criss-cross or over-under per that website.
I actually have pretty sensitive feet, so I appreciate the locking eyelets so I can keep the portion over my instep looser than at my ankles.

Wow, awesome!
Ian's shoelace site is such a great resource... Thanks for sharing!
My main problem with tight lacings is that I find the boots impossible to remove afterwards... I'm a very patient man, but somehow patience doesn't seem to apply to shoelaces for me... Knots + shoelaces = ?&*!&@&*!@%!^%!
My second main problem is always the knot... It only lasts for 5 mins... I use the simple 2-loop knot... (The only one I know..) Now I can play with a million other different knots...!

These websites are very good.
I use most of these techniques on my hiking/backpacking/mountaineering boots, logging boots, as well as my lace-up Nordic boots. I have never used the full-on "ladder lacing".
I use "surgeon's knot" at each transition point in my boot- at the top of the instep; just above the ankle-flex point; and then again at the top, where I tie it off.
The Alaska, just like many mountaineering boots- has a cleat at the top of instep to help prevent loosening of laces.
I have used lace-locks, regularly on high-cut logging boots- to prevent them from coming loose and/or untied. There are few things more dangerous than a loose or untied boot when tree felling on a steep slope...
Good stuff man.

Cross-country AND down-hill skiing in the backcountry.
Unashamed to be a "cross-country type" and love skiing down-hill.

Re: How do you lace your leather ski boots?
my bestest advice: one boot at a time, your least dominant foot first. and use two hands for tying the knots.
