Thanks for all the thoughts guys! I decided to go with the free the powder brand. Seems like they put a lot of thought into their design, and seems like they care about the quality of their product.

I ordered the 3 fingered version. Can't wait to check them out!

I'm late on this post....but maybe this can benefit someone else or if you need gloves in the future.

I have always been obsessed with gloves. I have 20+ pairs of all types. I buy them like socks.

For day trips 30F and down to 0F, I used Swany Wendell gloves last season for most of the dry cold Alaskan winter. they have a nice wool liner. the wool liner has worn out after 50+ days but I have other thin liners that I have been using that work fine. They are very warm. I use leather wax on them to keep them soft. I wouldn't recommend them for spring conditions as they will not do well with wet snow. When it warms up, I use cheapo OR leather work gloves and carry medium weight liners as backup.

I have the black pair.

I have Outdoor Research's 50% off pro deal but I was tired of ill fitting cheapo gloves from OR and bought these instead and I am very impressed with the quality of these gloves for the price and will probably get them in brown too. If I didn't have a discount from OR, I would never buy their gloves (or anything from them for that matter!! their stuff is pretty low quality for how expensive they are).

If you want to step up for something even better, Hestra Morrison are good warm gloves (great for very cold conditions and downhill oriented skiing) and Hestra Ergo grip Outdry for uphill touring and spring skiing. I usually bring two sets of gloves and one set of liners for variable weather and long tours.

Hestra Ergo Grip Outdry are the best ski touring gloves money can buy...used it on a 7 day backcountry spring ski mountaineering tour in Canada...and never needed any other glove.

My kind of gloves are Deerskin leathers with liner built in. Have a set of leather gloves with just a thumb attachment and wool insulated for really cold or when the Deerskin gets wet. They, but for a couple days in a year, stay in the pack. TM

I wear German army leather summer gloves (=plain leather gloves without liners) with Rab Primaloft gloves as undergloves.

When it gets colder, I wear German army waterproof leather / fabric mittens on top of the gloves, and/or wrist warmers of some army in addition.

All of the above are really inexpensive, but work well. I have got tired of expensive gloves that wear out soon.

FYI above, if someone else needs glove tips, too.

Do you use Hydrobloc or some other waterproofing on the leather?

I haven’t used anything yet. Maybe I could put same wterproofing spray and shoe cream, that I use for leather shoes, at some point. Would be also interested, if anybody has some good tips!

The German army gloves are simple and thin so they dry relatively quickly. The mittens dry slower, but stay normally dry on the inside.

I did a quick google search and many different varieties came back. Can you link to the summer gloves you use? Thanks.

The ones I have in new like condition are darker grey. Older ones have a lighter grey color.

Thanks, I found some USA sellers who had gloves that look similar and from German army for cheap. Just needed a visual of what the real thing was. Also some USA military D3A leather gloves maybe worth checking out.
