The KOT-guy seems to propose to strengthen certain muscles. For the antagonists that are not used a lot and therefore gain as much strength as your Quadriceps do, it’s a good idea. A real game changer is to stretch the muscles that cause the pain: The ones you use the most. The last two exercises in this video are essential (though the first ones are important for your knees, too). Sorry for the language, I couldn’t find any comparable vids/pictures. You might want subtitles for background information.
