1. did you ever use canning paraffin to wax your skis...because thats the only wax you had? (( yes, my dads idea)
3. did you ever use old woolen socks as "over boots" for your nordic ski boots( yup, another idea from dad)
I'm sensing a pattern ... Dad wasn't Scottish descent, was he, like ...Guyver?
4. did you eve line your boots with old loaf bread bags to keep your socks dry ( yup, that was kid thing in VT)
I've used shopping bags over feet to keep socks from sweating out and getting cold, but they will tear if "walked" in long enough. I also typically carry a fresh a pair of socks and four bags on BC winter summits in case I posthole into water, a bag either side of the sock to keep the insulation dry.

The cool trick is oven bags from the super market for chickens or stews as they won't tear and are a fraction of the price of Vapor Barrier Socks. If they don't work for ya', small price; if they do, mull getting the real thing or stick with grocer.
7. did you ever wear women's nylons
That's a good way to get kicked out of a bank (according to a friend).
need to be old enough to remember life before Smartwool. Poypropeline , etc
How about Scotch-guarding your jeans and (jean) jacket the night before going skiing?

10. do you normally carry more than 3 Voile straps with you...because stuff breaks?
No, but I do save the laces from tennis shoes before tossing them then stash them in my hiking/skiing pack's inner pouch. I've lashed a snowshoe together then a pivot rivet broke on two separate occasions -- since replaced all pivot rivets with screw, nylock nuts, and fender washers. I also used them to make leashes for my 3-pin Karhus when I took them to a couple ski resorts -- double overhand to make a loop, girth hitched to ski binding hole, looped into bungee closure at bottom of each gaiter and tucked excess away.

N.B., see thread: Multiple "Voila" Straps for $2.00
11. bonus: when you see a bait and tackle shop, do you understand that it contains endless possibilities for fixing broken ski boots?
Nightcrawlers?! Seriously? Eww...

doesn't everyone carry lead fishing weights in their wax box to increase cable tension on the walk mode cam lever( after it stretches and the manufacturer didn't bother to include a tightening turnbuckle)
