Read up, Gary combines intuition liners in a "soft" 3 pin setup, much akin to what I have been blabbing about. He also uses VBL liners to keep his insulating socks dry. He lives in the Arctic.

Maybe he wears VBL in addition to his intuition liners because he wants to stuff extra socks in there to keep warm, but doesn't want to get them wet?
Not sure what he meant by:
As footwear, mukluks are notoriously uncomfortable to wear unless the liners work well.
I make mukluks and have never heard anyone say it wasn't the most comfortable thing they wore on their feet in their lives!
