I made swappable binding plates using the Rottefella FreeRide pink plates a few years ago ...
What are these pink plates made of? I'm just wondering if some "Motorcycle DIY" technology can be crosspollinated into this area?

Motorcycle luggage for offroad use is stupidly expensive, much like ski gear. I almost always prefer to repurpose gear by making mods. At the moment I'm building a quick-release plate for a Pelican case. But I digress.

A favorite cheap-o-KLR-rider trick is to make adapter plates using polyethylene cutting boards available at Walmart for a few bucks. I made one a few years ago to hold a BMW R1150 era System Case top trunk on an R1150R. Worked great. I think this same material would work extremely well for binding plates. It's highly-weather resistant, virtually unbreakable and, when sourced as a cutting board, ridiculously cheap. As an added bonus, HDPE resists the buildup of ice and snow, literally, as well or better than anything else mankind knows of. There are a couple of different materials they make these from but I think most of them would work just fine.

@JohnSKepler

I believe the pink plates are polyoxymethylene (POM).
