Dec 5th, barely enough snow to venture off tracks at Ylläs, Finland
Many groomed tracks are already made and ski resorts running, but snow depth is quite low for this time. Bogs and lakes have a stong ice, at least. Will have to wait a little before any serious skiing. ~10cm new snow this week, but still not enough
Colorado Front Range is off to a better start this year than most recent years. Did my first XCD outing on Nov 19th! I think it’s been several years since I’ve XC skied in November. And got two lovely outings this past weekend at one of my favorite locations. Saturday I went out with my wife and we did some trails and some off trail plodding (not doing that route again!). Sunday I went solo to the same area but hit a few different spots. Go some turns in too!
Well, my first video since I turned 70 years of age last summer!
We've just been getting dump after dump. This is on the Red Cloud lift at Deer Valley. On the 6th, we got about 10" of medium weight powder. There were no crowds and I got in 15 runs before my legs gave out.
Today, the 7th and we got 8" of that super light Utah powder on top. 12 runs and done. Today (thank God) no new powder, so a recovery day.
In the interest of full disclosure and airing dirty laundry. Lisa, the video taker seemed way too delighted when she said, "and we got it in video"!
Yeah, down in Park City it looks to start up in earnest by about 2 PM tomorrow through Tuesday.
Go to work. Pay into my Social Security!
HA! I’ll pay in whether I’m there or not since I’d use a vacation day. But yeah, this is sounding like it might be the first big one of the season (at least the first one for the Front Range of CO).
Hy all
First of the season for me.
Big "classique", with the top of Chamrousse, a well known resort around grenoble in the French Alps.
Very cold, good snow, nice turns. Big fun.
