Raining here all day again the day after Christmas on the shore of Lake Superior. Plenty of precipitation, but with high temps near freezing or higher forecasted until the first below zero F nighttime low on January 15th. I am then seeing highs around freezing again. When will I ski? Will this be the worst season I've ever experienced? I don't know but I am getting many projects done, my ATV with plow is looking pretty spiffy. Gotta make lemonade.
It is reminiscent of the southern Puget Sound, like a rainforest. Maybe my trees will have a nice growth spurt.

@Tom M

Tom how’s your season going so far in northern Wyoming? Not too great down here in southern Wyoming. Conditions okay but nothing to write home about.

Northern Utah is not having a great early winter but it’s hard to complain on the heels of the ‘best’ winter ever. I ask people who’ve been here a long time and they say “It’s northern Utah,” and/or “It’s still early.” Most everyone around here is fine with a warm winter.

It’s funny, up until a few years ago mild winters were counted as a blessing. They understood the snowpack but they also understood freezing to death. Like @wabene , I’m getting some things done that I wouldn’t be getting done.

@voilenerd It has been a very slow start here as well. The South facing slopes below 7000 feet are bare, but there is skiable snow on other aspects above 7000. Salt River Pass Snotel is down to 15 inches, Togwotee Snotel is at 27 inches. The base has firmed up, so the skiing is not too bad, but it is unusual to see so much brush sticking up through the snow this time of year. Last year was such a boomer snow year it makes this year seem bleak by comparison. I have my hopes up that we will get some snow in early January.

Everywhere I look, there is little to no snow in the forecast.

I may be responsible for this lack of snow. At the start of the season, I bought spare batteries for my snow blower. Sorry!
It looks like we could get a change in the weather around 6 January, but Alta has gotten almost 13 feet of snow so far, so we'll see how the season shakes out.
