I’m always slower than other people, tend to take in the sights alot. Alpine skiing with my wife is always amusing- when she hits the afterburners and takes off she quickly disappears on me.

Lol, one of the MAIN reasons I took up leather boot telemark skiing (aside from my hate of plastic alpine boots) was as a handicap to downhill ski at resorts with my wife who is a novice/intermediate skier and happy on the blue runs.
And I don't regret it! I have a great time tele-ing on leather on blue runs, and stopping to take in the views, as good or better a time as I ever had ripping moguls on burly alpine gear in my youth. Quality over quantity. IDK how anyone wants to downhill ski for 8 hrs in a row. 4 hrs, a brat and a beer and a warm fire by 3pm, paradise...
