I was thinking Tele might have some advantage in that glop cuz you keep shuffling a tiny bit, moving the skis upwards ? There's a sweet spot where skiing crap is fun! But it's sure not about any "real" turning..
More or less, to keep shuffling would be necessary for staying afloat on powder during telemark skiing.
Other than that, whether to pick heavy or lite gear would depend on one's preference.
If you're a kind of skiers who like to make showy and splashy turns, go for heavy one regardless of alpine or tele. But if you like rather modest but swift and compact turns, go for XCD!
The flowing river never stops and yet the water never stays the same.
I think Alpine or Tele in the deep glop that's unsettled (Sierra/Cascade Cement ) skis have to be shuffled a bit to make sure they are always rising!..Exciting to ski, cuz there's very little option to bail out without falling..so ya fall or keep balance and drop straight to a runout..
