Johnny wasn’t telling the OP what to do… he was reviewing a boot… getting the word out to a general audience…. BIG difference.

Telling ppl what they should do… to be like them… LOL.

Narcissism is bragging about yerself… or expecting people to do the same thing you do.

Easy to lose count of first person references in Al’s posts. It’s not name calling… observation… don’t want to be called a boorish boomer… don’t act like one. Simple.

@Eastern Ian You’ll run into ppl trying to tell you what to ski, how to ski, etc. As long as it’s working for you, nobody else’s opinion, advice matters.

Need a ski lesson… take lessons. Wanna share an experience… do tell. Answer a Q… rtfq and respond to it.

Tell other ppl what they need to do online… pretty lame.

Blowhard. Ha ha. Coming from ppl who tell others what they do… whether OT or not.

They’re only relevant if he and the OP are coming at this from a similar age, conditioning, and ability perspective. The OP hasn’t posted anything on this. Simple Q. Indication of enough experience to know where he’s at. Specific mention of things like weight, feel, etc.

OP’s specifically asked about a boot and binding setup relative to icy sections. Not the place for Al to lecture OP on what he should do to be just like him. Not my place either. Should give OP what he asked for.

Surprised you can’t relate to being lectured on same issue… posted this not too long ago:

https://www.telemarktalk.com/viewtopic. ... +kg#p32088

Over 2 lbs per foot adds up on a big climb… pita on an off camber traverse too. Unless riding the lifts or magic carpet… LOL… extra weight takes away from the experience. Limits the climb… limits the descent… limits the turn.
Age, conditioning and ability are irrelevant to this discussion. It would be terrain and goals that I would base my gear choice on. Why do you think age has anything to do with it?

As far as weight goes, the T4s will not only be significantly lighter than what the OP is skiing now, but their better range of motion that will greatly improve touring. They won't be that much heavier then the old school leather telemark boot that he has skied in the past.

Age, conditioning not relevant to climbing, skiing light gear in challenging conditions? Demonstrates how out of touch you are.

Manney, where am I bragging? I do know how to ski though, and after doing the same kind of skiing for forty years I would sure hope that I do.

Ian is looking for advice about a gear change, that is what I gave him. If he decides to go with an Xplore system and his goal is to have fun making turns he will have more disappointing days because of conditions. If he is OK with that, that's fine.

Oh, BTW, Johnny changed his opinion on not only the Alpha Free but Xplore in general.

Again you've turned a thread into a shit show, I wouldn't be surprised if the OP doesn't come back.

I would think that the guy that has never skied the gear or the terrain and has different goals than the OP would be the one more out of touch.

He won’t come back to be told what to do by an aging skier with bad knees and a one track mind… even if supported by a lackey or two.
