Re: XCD skis on hardpack at the resort
I had a S-112 and a USGI ski at the time. The S-112 was such a torsional noodle when I was skiing at the ski hill with my son. I also found I could climb better with wax and the USGI, yet the scales on the S-112 were so slow on compacted snow. My Falketind Xplore is 196 cm, so I don’t know for certain if there would be times the S-112 would float better. I sold the S-112, I have never missed it. I know know people like that ski. I just don’t like it. My FT X is faster on the flats, much more torsionally rigid if the snow is firm, offers great stability in deeper snow, because it is supportive with an even flex. So I really like the FT X, and I didn’t like the S-112. Lots of people do like the S-112, so to each his own.

Fisheater- I can’t remember if you had the first gen Falketind or not? If so is the Falketind Xplore stiffer than the 1stGen? Seem to remember reading that somewhere. I had one but simply couldn’t use it, banana’d constantly on me (it was a 188). In hindsight I expected too much from it, I think it would’ve been okay on groomed or consolidated snow, just didn’t work for me in the conditions I used it.

I did have the first gen Falketind, yes it did banana. It was much softer longitudinally. It was not supportive in deep snow. It was a flawed design in my mind, Johnny preferred the original design.
However on hardpack it was definitely not a torsional noodle.

I could see the First Gen Falketind working for someone as light as Johnny, was a bad idea for a 210+ guy to try.

I don’t have a scale, but when I get on one I’m in the low-mid 190’s lbs. if that helps.

Re: XCD skis on hardpack at the resort
finally got to mess with my friend's FTX today-- it was great fun. definitely stiffer and faster than the 112's. though the edge hold seemed less bitey. could have been the soft spring corn though.
i very much want to try a rabb 68 with xplore and my alfa free boots. but i just ordered Koms, which i'll be skiing with T4's, a different branch of the tele tree.
