you might be interpreting rabid enthusiasm as condescension! these guys are launching off rocks in the woods and stomping the landings on 15-year-old Asolo leathers and super teles. they're having fun, it's exciting, they don't understand needlessly heavy gear or dabbling in flimsy step-in systems. They need the extra weight capacity to carry sausage up the mountain.

No there's condescension. A lot of arrogance too. It's always driven people away and has never done anything to help anyone learn anything who is new to the sport.

See the thing is, Teleman won't give the full beans here for fear of banishment, even though neither Johnny or myself would ever banish him. I simply don't take him serious enough and I actually think some of what he has to say makes a lot of sense.

See the thing is, not everyone needs a club. We don't need hats and special names. Clubs imply inclusion as well as exclusion, and there has always been this ongoing undertone that the KTB knows best and then the haters who always shoot them down. Most blatantly it's been called "not real skiing" and "getting baked and smashing your head into trees".

The reality is probably somewhere in the middle. Have fun, share your story, but Christ don't discourage everyone else who does something a little different just because it doesn't fit into your narrow view of skiing.

And if you have a comment about it, balls up and say it to them directly. Don't sneak around and snicker with your little club buddies. Condescension right there.

You'll always get the straight shot from me. Like it or not.

I see what you are saying. I ski with a clan that likes old skis, 3-pins and leathers. In fact, that's exactly what we did this weekend (and the week before...). Teleman is not unique or special. There's groups of skiers all over the world that do the SAME EXACT type of skiing that TM's "boys" do, but they are not likely as condescending. Also, I am a bit bias against TM because of his past, overt racism over at another forum. I find that makes me grumpy when reading his diatribes and lectures.

I still ski skinny skis and leather but I have adapted the newer high and tight style to the xcd gear. I also wonder why some people on that gear ski with their poles so long, even when they are adjustable.

Sticks and stones boys.....Skiing was terrific today with many arcs, jumps, dip diving, and lite face shots all done on skinnies pins camber and leather...er....except for Telewheels on his switched back vortexed fatties.....very slow....dogs.... downhill boards....But some people I've heard NEED them....Snicker mikie and conn-man....The fire helped with the 10 below start and food was wonderful....Very fast conditions and many un skied bowls left to be had this coming week....Bout a thousand feet of them....some mellow others not so much...Ended up at Boot's Penthouse....high on a hill....looking over at Mansfield....Nice Alpin glow this morning and reflections off Rhyme ice everywhere.... Excellent shadows for some picture taking....Hope you all had a great day as well and Low Angle when you can, come on over.....Would or could....be better with more snow...TM

Geez... Alpine boards for me... I'm likely more XC than you guys are Bruce.

Don't need friends. Don't need clubs. Don't need names. Don't need private land. Don't need to take pictures. Don't need to prove myself to anyone.

Skiing is different for you and me. It's not better or worse, but it's definitely different.

I actually prefer to be alone. I hate taking pictures. I'm not an advocate of private lands. I like to see new things. Go new places. Clear my mind. Forget about desks and internet forums. Forget about egos and equipment. Forget about love or hate. I'm deep in thought about nothing. Which is everything to me.

Some people live their whole life and never realize it. It took me many years, and skiing isn't the only way for me... it's one. And it's become possibly my favorite.

That's wonderful and fascinating TM. I went skiing today and managed to do it without bragging myself up or talking down to anyone! Does it still count as telemark even though nobody shot photos of me doing it?

Con-mon, NO! Mikie I ski almost every day solo.....What's the big deal?.....Since you run this site Miketalk, are you saying pictures are a no-n0 like conn man?.....We don't talk...talk....quack...quack....we ski....If you don't get that so be it....We have a great time.....we love our equipment and your argument about purchasing equipment so the manufacturers will build it is totally bogus....Are you serious?....Mike when you look at the new pictures remember and try to understand that we ski sketchy conditions and love it...Pictures are for those who understand the thrill...the fun....We don't need nor do we want bigger fatter heavier....We all like skinnies because they slice the forest....they go up and down....they are a stable platform....they absorb the dips and jumps....(Missed the air yesterday, not quick enough with the camera and to far away)....LC I don't know what the new e109's are like and if they use a rag for a base forget them....but...if they are still cambered...with Fischer's fast bottom they are a tremendous ski....I usually get my stuff at ski swaps or such but am thinking of getting a 190....they ski BIG....and fast!!!!! Cruise the forest wicked....Lastly if you see pictures of Telekid he is on e99's and zowie does he make them tippy toe dance. Finally Woodp, Lowaa, 816, canna, when the snow improves thinking a warm welcome and a tele party for all....Up at the Penthouse....on the side of a hill..it's an entry into a wide open hardwood ski for those who like to laugh...TM

I don't know why I bother...
Teleman wrote:Mikie I ski almost every day solo.....What's the big deal?.....
Case in point. It's not a big deal because it's not to you.
Teleman wrote:We don't talk...talk....quack...quack....we ski.
Good luck skiing on an internet forum. You don't know me, I don't know you. I don't presume to either, but you sure do paint a picture.
Teleman wrote:we love our equipment and your argument about purchasing equipment so the manufacturers will build it is totally bogus....Are you serious?....
I'm not sure you understand how capitalism works. You seem to be all for it whenever you talk about politics.

Ever wonder why your beloved 215cm E99s are no longer available?

I could add a jab about ego-centrism and arrogance, but I'll just remind you that the world does not rotate around you or what you do. Beyond the KTB this is abundantly evident.
Teleman wrote:Mike when you look at the new pictures remember and try to understand that we ski sketchy conditions and love it...Pictures are for those who understand the thrill..
I love pictures. I actually like yours. But you won't post them. Your arrogant friend was banned, tough nuggets. Adapt. Or go the way of the Dodo.

Don't mistake not liking to take pictures with not liking pictures - the devil is in the details there. I prefer not to be interrupted in what I do and have to THINK about taking shots. I still do on occasion, and mainly for the reasons you state.

Lets agree we don't see, you and me, Mikie....As far as picture taking it's a constant for me....Nature provides, I record what I can....Last week after a bgf blow was cruising up toward Telecamp....Sun was just peeking over a rise...Where the wind had blown off the snow was a sun on ice trail of light....Now getting the camera out of that pack is a chore...A pain....I didn't and here I'm writing about it because I was lazy Nature got shunned....Thinking for those kinds of beauty need a pocket shooter....ANother thinger Mike is I shoot the forest, people skiing are a by product....Rarely would I take a picture at a resort....Way better photographers do that all the time....But out in the forest Nature shows the way and that is MY temple...paying homage on bended knee...Oh yeah! TM
