OTOH, Fischer's attention to detail may make them quite a bit different to a very sensitive skier.
I find the S Bound a fine waxless XC ski, but I don't really know much better. I also find it a very fun telemark ski in corn snow on mild slopes, but again, I don't know much beyond the current XCD realm of skis.
To be honest the S-78 makes more sense to me.
If the E-109 is really intended to be primarily a XC ski- then IMO they should have stayed true to that.
The S-78 is an excellent XCD ski- it meets that balance very appropriately. If they offered the S-78 with a waxable base I would have bought it years ago.
If the Eon Wax was stiff enough- I wouldn't be wasting money and time looking for something else!
The design of Ingstad/Combat Nato- to me- is the real mystery (I am very excited about finding out!) While there is a lot of overlap between the S-78 and the E-109- the Ingstad seems to be a very different approach to the same intended outcome: cross-country AND downhill skiing.
Cross-country AND down-hill skiing in the backcountry.
Unashamed to be a "cross-country type" and love skiing down-hill.
Lilcliffy, if you're salivating over the non-existent 78-wax, think about finding some old Fischer Outtabounds, the wax 88. Fun. Ski. Period. I have two pairs. Big camber, poppy. Fun!

Hmmm...yeah- I missed out on that generation of waxable Fischer XCD skis...
I would like to eventually acquire wax versions of the S-Bounds..

Just scored on some new leftover Epochs with some new leftover Rotefella Chili bindings and got them all mounted up. We got 5" of fresh snow this morning. Took them out to a local hill and I was linking Teles with ease. My mid weight leather Alicos matched up well with that setup.
Not sure of the model Alicos. I have had them 15 years. I bought the last two pair from the local store, one is a Light/medium weight and one heavy weight with buckles.
