Summer's pretty much here. Our short, low snow season this winter has me missing skiing before it's even entirely over.


Low angle day trips with my ladies into great scenery in the mountains above town. Pushing my limits. Here at -45 near Chena Hot Springs, skiing into a small forest service cabin for the night. Playing on easy terrain. I don't practice turning much, and it shows in my dh abilities. Finding new routes and linking up fun traverses. Here on an overnight loop in the Chugach Mountains on a route I had heard of, but couldn't find any info on anyone actually skiing. I'm sure it's been skied, and the terrain was easy, there was just a little bit of bushwhacking and quite a bit of route finding. Camping. My favorite ski trips involve camping after a long day of skiing, then waking up and doing it all over again.

My dogs feet start getting cold in the single digits - your dog is tough! maybe they'd grow thicker fur in AK.

My recent pictures were all recently local. I used to live in Louisiana and obviously skiied at other locations. These are some I can access electronically, there are a few I have on conventional pictures, which have not been scanned (and have not located since moving. When I find them I will post.

The town is Anchorage, Al's third photo is in the area as well. Anchorage is a mountain town at sea level. My photos are all from 13/14 and 14/15. I got out on a few ski adventures this winter, but I had to drive for most of them and they weren't as frequent.

We put cordura booties on my dog when it gets below 32F, mainly to prevent snowballs building up between her pads. Below 0F or so we switch to fleece booties. She didn't like -45 very much at all. When we got to the cabin she crawled into my GF's -40 bag and didn't come out for a couple of hours. Same when we got back to the truck the next day. She's a northern dog breed, Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, but it takes an arctic dog breed like a Siberian husky, malamute or samoyed to be ok at -45.
