Skiing in Glacier NP

STG? I know you say you ski in Yellowstone, do you ever ski in Glacier.

Not planning a trip or anything, just curious... I've never really heard much about skiing in that park. Too remote and rugged?

Waiting to go ski the Pass once it is open with Panhandle Backcountry group, but there have been a lot of wet slides this year. Lots of skiing options available from Logan Pass.

Mike,

I have never skied in Glacier Park. I live in Southwest Montana which is a ways from Glacier National Park. I have heard that there is great corn snow in the park (spring conditions) and some challenging terrain.

Check this out:

The main road through Glacier is closed in the winter. There is only road access up to McDonald Lake on the west side, no roads into the park on the south or east. There is also some access further northwest, I believe.

Yellowstone has a road from the north entrance to the northeast entrance which stays open in the winter. There is a road on the northwest corner of the park (RT 191) which also access some backcountry and telemark skiing.

I actually thought Glacier was bigger than it actually is... I guess I actually meant Helena and Lewis & Clark? NF and the surrounding areas. For some reason I thought that was all part of GNP, but I see now Rte2 bounds the southern edge.

Friends just biked the Going to the Sun RD, should open for cars soon.
Here's the link to plowing progress.

Mike, I can guarantee the park won't seem small with those Mtns.

I didn't mean it was small... just smaller than I thought looking at Google maps:

I thought all that green down to Helena was part of Glacier.

Cool little ski hill just south of the park, made it into one of the ski mags and used to be called Rocky Mtn High. It has some great hike to terrain.
