BREIA Jan 29—Liz, Joy, me, Bill Ingersoll and Doug Tinkler shared a day at the Jackson Hill Trails, on the Black River Environmental Improvement Association (BREIA) property. Simply perfect powder snow about 2’ deep with a base. The trails are free! They were groomed prior to the latest lake effect snow, so we had 2" of powder on top of firm in the set tracks. The warming hut heated up nicely when we stoked the fire in the woodstove. We skied the 5 mile inner gold loop and then later we went to the Telemark field. The snow was TOO deep for me to make turns on my Glittertinds. I was plowing powder to my knees. The Telemark Field is not steep by any means, you would need firm snow with a light layer to get some linked turns. Later after more tea and banana bread at the warming hut, we skied the Northern Loop. This xc gem in Boonville is outstanding, not only woods trails but spectacular open fields with pristine snow and super views. We saw about 25 people on the trails, but it never felt crowded. Most of us skied 68/55/62 while BIll skied his Snowbounds with 78 at the tip. The tracks here will accept them easily.

Great place. Miss it as I haven't been this year and probably won't be able to go.

Telemark field is turn able with the right skis - bring something a bit wider and stay to the far left in the trees going down - it is better with a base a little fluff though. You can also keep heading straight down through the trees.

Lots of stuff on the Great Trail and Glacier trail is good for swishing back and forth. Best early season before it gets groomed though.

That sounds like a great place Paul.

Sometimes on those low angle meadows only the fattest skis work(110mm and up). My vectors don't always cut it.
