Maine where to ski

Hey I love near Bangor and am looking for some trails in the area to explore and work on building my downhill xcd skills. I have been using hoks for a few years, and have a pair of Voile Objective BC’s showing up this weekend.

Willing to drive for a good spot.

Baxter State Park, Maine Woods and Waters National Monument, Acadia, Trails along the East Branch of the Penobscot in Grindstone or head to Maine's western mountains. Tons of good skiing.

What about Acadia park and the other hills around Bar Harbor? With all the carriage roads it's like Disneyland of XCD skiing. It's one of the places in David Goodman's book. Also open snowfields & tree skiing with enough snow.

If you want a hut to hut tour, try Maine Huts and Trails system near Sugarloaf and Carrabassett Valley. While it is groomed trails, you can link four huts together that are ski in only and it feels very wild and remote. Fantastic food, shared rooms. I did it in the summer as a hiking trip. My favourite cabin was the most remote one called Grand Falls Hut - amazing. Maine Huts.org. I'm sure the skiing would be fantastic.

I've skied here. It's awesome, but you have to nail the weather and snow... as in there has to be snow. It has to be a good year. Jan-March 2015 was great for instance. Right on the ocean like this it can be tough to get. When it's good there are crazy lines you can ski with open pitches and scattered pines and drops. The carriage roads are a delight for XC. The auto-road makes for a good schuss to the summit but comes with snowmobile traffic, which can be good or bad.

sorry to see this! Not enough customers I guess, too bad. It seems like no one can get this business model to work in New England. The same thing happened to the Philips Brook yurt system in NH after a few years. Not enough support for BC skiing. Meanwhile the slow-shoers fill up the expensive AMC hut system.
