It was inevitable. Parking-lot skin cutters, the illiterate, and people who just couldn't be bothered ruined a good thing. For the record I skin up all the time, and am a frequent user of the policy even though I have had a season pass for years. So my rug just got pulled.

Even though there is a very clear uphill policy listed online and even through there is a goddamm map at the parking lot to reference, people couldn't/wouldn't do some basic homework and stick to the delineated uphill route, avoid snowmaking, avoid grooming. Pretty damn simple. Those were the only rules.

So we went from free, uphill skinning at all hours to non-operational hours before 8am, Mon-Thurs only.

I am not surprised. It was coming.

Anecdotes: I had one guy in the smack middle of the trail, under a roll, as I came blasting over the top of it. Oblivious. Did not like it when I attempted to educate him on his dumbness. Have been eye-rolled by others when I explained they were on the wrong uphill route. Have watched others jauntily go straight up the steepest trail right in the middle of downhill traffic. Dumb dumb dumb. Watched some Parking-lot skin cutters get to the summit one day and say, "we're already here?" Yes, yes you are you dumb f**k, this hill has barely 600' vertical what were you expecting jerkface?! Go back to Mass. Thanks for nothing. Thanks for not contributing financially to this small family owned mountain that tries like hell to provide a great skiing experience and actually cares about the sport, not real estate development.

Also, thanks for all the fake BS cloying excruciatingly lame "I earn my turns" posturing in the parking lot before you hike up. You're gonna get sweaty in the puffy you clown. Christ, put down the instagram already. Screw you.

As in many other things in life, those that can’t follow rules are not exercising their freedom, they’re restricting the freedom of others.
I know when I was young, I was a little stupid and a little disrespectful of rules. However it just seems worse currently.
My condolences Woods. Pats Peak sounds pretty cool. You can have a lot of fun in 600 feet.

The local ski area that I used to ski at, Winter Park, Colorado, for the first time this year started charging $15 for an uphill arm band pass. You still have to follow all the other rules like reservations, distancing, etc. Uphill’d there once about 4 years ago just to try it once. Saw 2 other people on their way up as I was on my way down. Wonder how many people were going up to make them think Mo Money!

Etiquette seems to be pretty lacking these days. Ignorance on the other hand...

I threw down $40.00 for two uphill passes at steamboat yesterday (wife & I). Uphill access allowed only outside of operating hours. A tough pill to swallow but half the money went to the local SAR who I'm sure will be very busy this winter.

I've never been into hiking the resort anyways, but with how busy the bc has been so far this season it seemed like an option worth considering. Maybe for weeknights. $20.00 a person is worth being left alone. I also expect to get entertainment value out of my money, besides skiing...you know, steep approaches straight up the fall line, the instagram clowns, etc.

I can play by the rules. But there are a lot of rules and I wouldn't be surprised if people don't follow along and this ends.

What’s it like at Rabbit Ears? Had to take the wife to Steamboat for Dr. appt. It was hard to drive and check out the fresh pow at the same time. Ever looked into Bluebird? I see they have a new Mountain. Waiting for more snow to ski dark territory, burn scars.
