Re: Boot maintenance question
Gareth, thanks for posting the photos of your Alaska’s. It confirms to me, that between the stiff rand and possibly the leather, the Alaska forms differently than the Alfa Guard.
I have lots of miles left on my Alaska. That will be at least a couple of years. Lots of things change in a couple years, but I’ve never had any boot or shoe fit as good as my Alaska. The fit is why I bought an Alaska 75, when I really wanted a Norwegian welted boot. Well the fit and the less than $100 to my door last summer.
As far as style, I am a completely untrained Nordic skier. However in researching things Nordic I came across film of Jackrabbit Johannsen. While I don’t look people ski racing on TV, my skiing at least resembles Mr. Johannsen. I can live with that. I wish I had the legendary downhill ability of Mr. Johannsen.

Re: Boot maintenance question
@lilcliffy, ok, is this better?
I hope I have redeemed myself in your eyes!
.
I even fixed some bad stitching — this isn’t a high-wear area, so doesn’t seem like this should have happened.

Nicely done ↑ Master Stephen!
Cross-country AND down-hill skiing in the backcountry.
Unashamed to be a "cross-country type" and love skiing down-hill.

Re: Boot maintenance question
I don't want to start a new thread, so I write here as some boots defects were already discussed.
I received new Alfa Guards. The problem is with internal ankle cuff. In the right boot one side seems deformed. It feels like padding (foam) is crumpled, while the other side is smooth, like both sides in the left boot. It can clearly be felt by touch, is also visible a little. It is difficult to take a photo, as it is inside the boot.
Has it happened to anyone? Is it serious and can cause problems, like abrasions? I am thinking if I should return them, but it is troublesome (ordered at Varuste).

Re: Boot maintenance question
@Krakus, I see you are in Poland.
Based on my past experience, I think Varuste would be ok with replacing them, but you would have to go through the trouble and expense of returning the ones you have, and waiting for the new ones.
If you do return, make sure they have a replacement pair in stock.
Maybe even buy the replacement pair if Varuste will give you a full refund on the first ones.
I don't know how bad it looks, but you might try wearing them in the house and see if the "defect" bothers you.
If not, maybe just put up with it.
I had a small stitching defect in my Guard cuff that I repaired myself.
This sounds more serious, but maybe not worth the trouble of the exchange?
Good luck either way!
PS
Also, you could try contacting Varuste and see what they suggest.
