White Person Problem

So yeah... I have so many skis now, and I just couldn't be bothered with them bouncing around in my car I decided to buy ski holder for my rack. Great. It's just some plastic and aluminum POS that locks my skis on the roof, and is kind of hard to load, but hey I can carry like 4-5 sets of skis with me! And that's just on the roof!

Anyway I started using it the other day and I figured this was going to be an issue, and I didn't quite have a solution for it but I just said... eh fokket... anyway, here in NY we use literally tons of rock salt to keep our roads from icing up (and despite this people still drive 15 mph and crash every 5 min)... and well if you know anything about rock salt, it, mixed with water causes steel to rust and when you drive, your vehicle gets covered with it. I've had my skis on my rack since Thursday and I've kept them on because I've been using them... well today it jumped just above freezing and when that happens rust forms instantly. My edges, even on my new skis look like shit.

Anyway I'd like to clean them up and I don't want to go through the whole file/stone thing... I'm thinking just a scotchbrite pad or maybe even some steel wool? I did a Google search and there are tons of subjects and responses to this but most recommended using a gummi stone.

Also is there anything I can put on the skis to keep them from rusting in transit?

funny stuff.... Remind me that comedian's name again. He's a hoot, playing the game from the vantage of middle life.

So - One more think to acquire, eh - a gummy stone or how you spelled it gummi. That's german for rubber, implying softness. I have regular stones and scotchbright pad - probably would be nice to add one of these to the tuning kit...

I think most peoples solution are rocket boxes. Now if we only had real rockets in them.....

Oh, does that mean you actually started your ski season? We need to see some pics of that rack full of skinnies!

A gummi stone is what I use... Gummi stone, then do a few runs on hard pack and then file...

Just soak your skis in wax before you go... Keeps your edges rust-free during summer storage... Even better, get a real ski cargo box..!

Well shoot! I just took them off because it is raining.

I've been skiing a measly 4 times this year... but that's about normal for this area. I think I had about the same last year this time.

Gummi stone... OK - any recommendation on the color/grit? All these skis are going to become like work... not like the days when I used to ski non-metal edge xc's or paid to have my Alpines tuned.

No way am I getting a coffin for the top of my car!

And that's Louis C.K. - he's been making me piss my pants for the past 3-4 years. I saw him live in Boston a couple years back and I was literally scared I was going to pass out laughing or have a seizure or something... I made it through, but seriously I've watched some of his recordings and I've had to stop it because I was laughing so hard it hurt.
