The winter of my discontent

Wow the ski shortage is tightening! Anyone know where to find Fischer Excursion 88s in both 169 cm and 186? We have been looking for weeks in both Europe and North America, no luck.

I was at my local outfitter "Never Summer Mtn. Products" today. They had the Transnordic 68 and said they were expecting the 88 soon. Not sure what size or Qty is coming, but at least some are in the works. If a small outfitter in a town of POP 500 is getting some Im sure others are too.

That looks like a cool shop and I love the Never Summers. So you live on the "other side" ? (guess that depends on how you look at it) All the trans-nordic skis seem easy to find around here but the Traverse and Excursion I can only find a couple of pairs in 176 that don't help us.

That "soon" seems to be the standard reply worldwide of Fischer Reps to their ski-starved Nordic ski retailers- Aventure Nordique and Telemark Pyrenees, small shops, told me they would get the Excursion 88 and Traverse 78 "between Christmas and New years" and "Week of 27 December" but could not say what lengths or qty, they hinted at only 3 pairs to TP! Now Aventure Nordique says the first quinzaine of January which means by the 15th- again no idea of the sizes coming. I will believe it when they actually show up. Not so small REI answered a customer question on their site about availability of the Excursion 88 and said they should have some "around Christmas"...they have since taken that down and now it just says "this product is unavailable".

Fischer is doing an appalling job, their fire was not so recent and never mind the production lag- They really can't figure out their production schedule and logistics schedule and simply tell the retailers what is coming to them and when??? ...so a customer could pre-order the ski with a realistic expectation of a certain delivery date? Fischer is a big company that apparently does not care much about this little niche market of Nordic touring, or "Adventure" skis, (as their marketing department now deems them on their fairly lame website).

Thanks for that. I am deciding between the 196cm Traverse and the 186cm Excursion. I am 6'2 215 lbs. I will never buy a ski longer than 200 cm for the simple reason that several airlines over here will not take a ski bag over 2 meters long. I was skiing the 196 cm Madshus Eon.

My wife has decided on the 169cm Excursion, downsizing from a 176cm Eon and ditching the 75mm for the Xplore.

...and yes we do have matching anoraks too : )

I am in a much different part of the world then you , but my local Fischer shop was told by Fischer that no 88's would be available until fall 2022 .

If anyone is looking for the Fischer Excusion 88 xtralite, season 21-22 in 179 cm. Ekosport has them for $366 price is including a choice of either NNN BC Manual or Auto, mounted. But shipping to the US is about $120. They only have one or two pairs. Ekosport in France (Savoie) is a good dealer, I buy my hiking boots and some other gear from them, helpful folks.

About Fischer supply in general: I had ordered a set of S-bound 98 in 179cm from Sport Conrad in Germany when according to their website they were "available": still no news... So I'll cancel that order and I'll use the old E109s which I bought recently. I'll likely continue on 2nd hand gear for a while and improve my skills in the dark art of grip waxing
Does anybody know if the Sporten factory (Kästle) in CZ produces for Fischer?
Some retailers (Aventure Nordique) advertise the Fischer offtrack Nordic line as made in Czech Republic.
I wonder what's going wrong...

Do you have any snow in Czech right now? Today is our first cold day in weeks here in Italy, a good sign.

skatepro.it is selling the S-bound 98 in 179cm- you can order now it says "available 12 January" on their ad on Google shopping. It sounds like a lot of Fischers are supposed to become available here in Europe in the next week or so.

I bought my Eons at Sport Conrad in Garmisch, good shop. I paid 99 EUR for each pair! But I have suffered the ugly yellow top-sheets for the past five years!

In the South of CZ the snow has all rained & melted away. Earlier in December we had some days with half metre of fresh powder on top of a hard thin base above about 900m with skiable 20cm fresh below that down to 700m. Surprisingly early in the season! We'll see what the rest of the winter brings. Fat chance it will be nice when I'm away working and vv.
Now I first want to play around with my 2nd hand E109s. Maybe next year I'll order S-bounds if they ever get produced... Perhaps by then new old stock from delayed production of this winter
