Wondering what everyone's favourite waxing iron is, especially for cold weather/hard wax (generally stuff with a recommended temperature 140-160 degrees celsius).

For resort skiing, I just use an old iron and turn it down. Works fine.

I bought the cheapest Swix one on sale and it works well. No complaints

I'm sure that's pretty popular in Fl.
For an iron I have an old (it has a cloth insulated power cord) clothes iron from a second hand store. Otherwise just look for a cheap new one, starting at a little over 10 bucks.

Although I have a Swix waxing iron, it does not hold heat very well, esp when using more modern hard glide waxes with additives like teflon. I suppose it might need a thermostat, but there's no way to get it serviced, so I fall back on a 35 yar old $10 clothes iron that always works, and is also hot enough to lift old adhesive when regluing climbing skins.

Digital IR thermometers are cheap, and would probably be prudent.
