Any recent NTN boot rumors?

Post by satanas » Tue May 03, 2022 4:34 am

There have been intermittent rumors for some years that Scarpa might eventually come out with a lighter boot with more ROM at the ankle; I've heard them locally here in Oz, as recently as last November.

Does anyone seriously think there will be a new plastic tele boot from Scarpa within our lifetimes, or from anyone else for that matter? If there's any evidence, pics or rumors, please post them!

Lots of treads and talk about it in different places, mostly here and backcountry talk. Scarpa has had a near production ready boot ready to go since around 2016 or 17. It's always been "look for it next year" every year.

In summary, if anyone makes one it will be Scarpa. It will 99% be a "maestrale class" boot--1400g per boot and moderately powerful. It might, or might not, be fully NTN. Part of the delay is the result of the mejido and lynx asking new questions of boots. Some have proposed that an updated "TTN" standard is needed for the new tech toe tele bindings. It seems any hint of uncertainty in the binding landscape makes Scarpa hit the pause button on production.
