Importance of the heel plate things that come with NN bindings?

Hi all! I just bought some Rottefella NN bindings from Facebook marketplace. £8.35 ($9.50) shipped which I was pretty happy with. They're going on my Fischer E99 (£80/$90 from Facebook marketplace) with Crispi Antarctic boots (NOK1300/$125 from Norwegian Facebook marketplace kindly shipped to me from Norway for NOK300/$28 .
The only reason I'm using NN is because my feet are super wide and any boots with a rand or with a formed-sole kill me. The Antarctics are IDEAL because the rubber sole is flat and my feet can just squish out the leather sides as much as they like.
These are the bindings, they haven't arrived yet so this is just the pic from the seller.
My question is: They don't come with the little grippy platform that the heel sits on. How important is this? Can I DIY one?
Cheers!!
