Hi all! I just bought some Rottefella NN bindings from Facebook marketplace. £8.35 ($9.50) shipped which I was pretty happy with. They're going on my Fischer E99 (£80/$90 from Facebook marketplace) with Crispi Antarctic boots (NOK1300/$125 from Norwegian Facebook marketplace kindly shipped to me from Norway for NOK300/$28 :P .

The only reason I'm using NN is because my feet are super wide and any boots with a rand or with a formed-sole kill me. The Antarctics are IDEAL because the rubber sole is flat and my feet can just squish out the leather sides as much as they like.

These are the bindings, they haven't arrived yet so this is just the pic from the seller.

My question is: They don't come with the little grippy platform that the heel sits on. How important is this? Can I DIY one?

Cheers!!

IMO yes. DIY or any old heel plate will be just fine as long as it's about the same height as the toe piece. If you want a climbing wire then it's time to get fancy.

I've put a lot of miles on that binding, basically learned to ski on it. In addition to the little heel piece there was a piece that fit in that square cutout of the toe piece and extended a few inches under your boot. It also had those spikes on it to keep your boot aligned on the ski.
