Hi Telemark Talk Community,

I got XPLORE bindings (love them) and ordered the anti-ice plate from REI, but instead they sent me the "free pivot plate". I called REI and they re-sent it, but it's the Free Pivot plate again.

Before I contact REI again, or Rotefella directly, I wanted to make sure I'm not missing something (for example, if the anti-ice plate is the free pivot plate, or am I correct in thinking that perhaps they got their inventory incorrect)?

I'm looking for something to avoid snow/ice buildup (sometimes when I'm skiing through deep snow, it builds up under my boot and acts like a riser that I don't want).

Thanks @turnfarmer ! Does this product have any PFAS (I have chemical sensitivities so avoid teflon, PFAS, etc.). Even my wax is all-natural PFAS-free.

I don’t believe there is such a thing as an anti-ice plate for this binding.

What @turnfarmer suggested is UHMW (Ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene) which is relatively chemically inert.

Some people use something like this, but it is Teflon Tape.

Yes almost certain it is Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene. Not sure what is in adhesive, but not likely teflon based.

Polyethylene is different from Polytetrafluoroethylene (Teflon). The former is not fluorinated. The latter is.

Any additional words, terms or descriptions might just be marketing BS that retailers use to push product with what is likely a very healthy margin. (Hey, let’s call it a super duper magic gravity distortion field device… we’ll sell more and make boat loads of cash.).

A vote for silicone spray. It is non toxic. I get a large bottle from the auto parts store and it is cheap. Altai recommended it on their website for lubing up the huge base and skin of the Hok. Spoiler alert; the Hok is still slow . Not a big fan of the 3 pin squeak. It drives me crazy. I'll liberally spray all my rat traps while the skis are hanging in the garage. No squeaks at all (the silence is golden) and ice doesn't stick much. It will last more than a day. The key I've found is to let it dry. Different skis may get spritzed more than once before they get used.

Now all that is great, but ski with a particular friend of mine who does zero ski maintenance and his skis will squeak enough for both of us
