Tellyho! I just scored a set of Catamounts at Value Village in Bellingham with NNNBC. Although I did my first turns on NNNBC over 18 years ago, I no longer have NNNBC boots or the desire to procure them because I enjoy the feel and control of my Asolo Extremes (lace-ups and pros) on my Alpina X-Terrains with Volie 3pin (Hardwire on them but I never bring the cables anymore) that I use for skiing forest roads early season or skipping meadows with my girlfriend. I've taken them (the alpinas) up Chair 1 at Baker on a nice day and could manage black diamond resort terrain in easy conditions without cables or crashing. I enjoy sneaking some groomers as reverse side country because I love carving groomers in my leathers and have not had a problem with booting out but I have always been using 20mm risers. I really don't like how the part of the 3-pin hardwire that attaches the cable (does anyone have a technical term for it?) sticks out and has damaged my boots and skis so I'm planning on mounting a plain rattrap like my dad used to tele. My dad, however, said he used to "boot out" and thinks risers are smart but never skied them. So why have I never seen a rattrap with no cables on a riser except on my other skis -which have the cable option anyway? Am I overkilling it with risers on rattraps? Do any of you have issues with "booting out" when your caving and how much rise have you found to be enough? Is "plain rattrap" the correct jargon for cable-less 3pin? I do have a 20mm volie hardwire riser already on hand but it is part of another complete 3pin hardwire binding. Thanks for the thoughts and I hope you are all having a great day.

I doubt you'd be the first as I can't see anyone adding heel riser blocks for the wires (flip up) to ascend and not also using the corresponding one for the front.

Looks like Tom M does what you say with the option of adding the hardwire (modified) on the go as he chooses.

Here's what I got so far without splitting up another binding setup for the riser

Maybe you already know this, but just in case...
You can buy 10mm or 20mm risers from Voile. They have the holes on top for your 3-pin binders.

Nice pair of Extremes you got there. I'm nursing my pair along. Was just on them this past weekend. What a great boot... if they don't murder your ankles. Fortunately for me, they fit me very well.

The riser is useful if you ski inbound... if you do not want to boot out. For outbound use, forget about that... No need.
